Heartbeat: Revealing Human Experiences in Climate Change
Climate change is severely threatening housing in the U.S., both directly and indirectly. Emergency shelters are costly—about $8,067 more per bed annually than federal housing subsidies. Beyond disasters themselves, climate change could erase nearly $1.5 trillion in home values by 2055 as more homes and land become uninhabitable. Rising climate risks have also driven insurance costs up by 33.8% between 2018 and 2023, with 2023 alone seeing an 11.3% hike. Meanwhile, disasters worsen rental shortages and destroy homes. This project seeks to understand the stories of many who have been affected by climate change.
